Goal Setting for business and life

We all have BIG plans for the New Year. This next year will be the best year of our lives, things will be different, and my New Years resolution will allow for this to happen. Gal Setting. While some people achieve their goals, most fall short or don’t even come close. Why is that? There are a number of reasons why; lack of desire, lack of accountability or just no will power. Whatever the case may be, we need to be easier on ourselves and have a plan when we set these goals so we can see what we are going to need to accomplish this goal and what it will take to get us there. There is a great tool I have come across from Zig Ziglar. I allows us to put thought into setting these goals for ourselves. What obstacles are we going to face achieving this goal, what skills are required and what benefits will we realize? And finally, what is you plan to make this happen? Understanding the Corporate Lifecycle

As part of my MBA studies in financial accounting at Benedictine University, we we studying the topic of analyzing a companies financial performance and the point came up of “Where is this company in the corporate lifecycle?” I did not know the answer to this but one of my fellow graduate students sent me this link. Having been involved in start up companies all my professional career, I could not help to want to share this with all of my clients. Blog Content – Rich in your Niche

When writing content for your company blog, make sure your content is Rich in your Niche and that you keep posting frequently. What is meant by this is you should write about what you do most of the time, your expertise, your service, giving advice to your followers. For instance, I like to put up post in areas where my clients seem to be stuck or I see an area that needs further explanation in the field of business development and social media marketing. I will rarely write about how to re-pot your daisy’s or paint the fender of a 1998 Acura. Keep writing about your niche, why you are in business. Another point is to write frequently. I know I am guilty of this myself, as the days seem to fly by and I do not post as much as I would like. But this is where setting an hour a week to read something new in your industry then write a post about it may be handy. Your doing two things at once, learning and sharing. Just remember, a stale blog is worse than no blog at all. Itdoes not look good for you and your...

One of the best ways to get what you want – ask

Somebody taught me long ago that one of the first things you need to do to be able to get what you want is to be able to ask for it. But it seems difficult for some people to be able to ask for what they want. When I am in business and selling me something, I almost always gave a discount if someone asked me for one. Whenever I go somewhere, I always ask if there is a discount. More than half the time I get between 10% and 30% off, just by asking. And if they don’t offer me a discount, that is fine too. One time I opened my Verizon wireless bill and saw it was $400 more than normal. Seems I had gone over by 900 minutes on my account. Instead of calling them up and yelling and bitching out the customer service agent, I politely said that the mistake was mine, I failed to keep track of the minutes and is there anything we can do to reduce the charges now and in the future. I was accountable and asked for what I wanted. She said she would be happy to go over my plan with me and knocked off $300. Now, I am not saying this will happen to you or you will get the same results, but remember to ask for what you...
